From Years of Back Pain to Supple Tactician

One of the best parts about our clinic is the different people from all walks of life that come through our doors. Truly an honor to have opportunity to work with some amazing people whose stories never cease to amaze.

From professional athletes, competitive rock climbers, recreational skiers and snowboarders, weightlifters alike to your friends and neighbors getting back on the mountain. We are always are appreciative to the mixture of people that we have the honor of working with.

One of my favorite people that I have had the pleasure to meet this year is Josh. He’s retired military, now working as a corporate strategist who enjoys hiking, traveling, and time on the gun range. From years of abuse training in the military to gradual deconditioning, Josh subsequently developed a herniated disc and chronic back pain, amongst shoulder, knee, pain and stiffness alike.

Josh’s biggest issues were a combination of progressive weakening of compound musculature along with development of muscle imbalances affecting his performance and capacity to be active.

When we met Josh, he had tried working with physical therapists in the past but was left frustrated from the lack of progression beyond simplistic and entry level movements such as dead bugs and simple stretches. While dead bugs can certainly help with back pain, after you’ve done thousands of them without any change, you might become frustrated yourself.

Josh was having difficulty with bending over, lifting, sitting and standing long time periods, to running even short distances. Things had gotten the point where his symptoms were messing with his head and became fearful to do pretty much anything for fear that it would result in pain.

Following a detailed evaluation, we got to the root problem and within a few weeks, Josh was back to being pain free for the first time in years. This included lifting heavier weights, hiking with his significant other, and exploring what health, fitness, and longevity meant to him.

Josh wanted to take it one step farther, get back into the gym and change his life. Again, because of everything going on, he had previously become fearful to most of anything. But now that pain wasn’t an issue, the doorways and opportunities are boundless. The transformation not only physically but psychologically within Josh has lead to huge changes in his life.

Josh knows not only how and what do in the gym based on his goals and objectives, but also knows that he has a medical provider and advocate in his corner to help him on his journey. These are the relationships that we look and love to develop with our patients. Working together, sharing thoughts and experiences that allow us to develop an individualized health and wellness plan specific to you.
